Sesshin and Retreat Registration

Sesshin is an intensive group practice. Each retreat begins at 7 p.m. on the opening Friday evening and runs until 12:30 p.m. on the final day. (All times are Eastern U.S. Time.) Residential attendees arrive by 6:30 p.m. on the first Friday evening and stay until 1:00 p.m. on the final day.

Diet and Health

If you have any food allergies, list them here. The Tanto will contact you via the email address you have provided to discuss your allergies. We are not able to maintain a kitchen that is free from cross-contamination and cannot monitor the ingredients in the food made available during sesshin. We will provide upon request and to the best of our ability a list of the ingredients used to prepare sesshin meals, but individual sesshin participants must assume personal responsibility for what they consume during sesshin and for any care or attention required to avoid allergic reactions.
Food is lacto-vegetarian. Please list any dietary requirements that should be taken into consideration.
Please describe any physical or mental health concerns or limitations of which we should be aware.
Please list any medications we should know about.

Outdoor Retreat Additional Information

Thank you for your interest in our Outdoor Practice Retreat. The retreat will begin
at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 18 and will end around 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 20.

It will be held near Westport, MA/Little Compton, RI (about 90 minutes from
Worcester and about 75 minutes from the Boston area). Those completing the
registration form will receive directions and a detailed schedule.

Registration Fee

The suggested registration fee is $200. Please don’t let financial considerations affect your
registration decision: just pay what you can afford if the suggested amount is
currently out of reach for you.

Sleeping Arrangements

There is plenty of outdoor space for tenting if you would like to bring your own tent. In addition, there are rooms to sleep in both in a large, unheated, converted barn and in a semi-heated 19th-century farmhouse. Sleeping bags are highly recommended—if you don’t have one to bring or borrow let us know and we will try to find one for you. Those sleeping indoors may also bring sheets and blankets. Please bring your own pillow and pillowcase.

Sitting Gear

We encourage you to bring your own zafu (meditation cushion) and sitting pad, but we have a few we can lend.

Registration Fee

The suggested registration fee amounts are as follows:

These are suggested amounts. If you want to attend, but the suggested amount would be a barrier to you, please pay the amount you can afford.

Donation Method
You may make your payment online via Paypal. You can use a credit card and do not need to set up a Paypal account. If you are unable to make your payment via Paypal, or by check, please email the registrar at registrar@worcesterzen.org to make another arrangement. If you would like to, you may include an extra 3% to your PayPal payment, so the Temple may recoup fee charged by Paypal.

Waiver of Liability

Sesshin is an intensive group practice. Each retreat begins at 7:00 p.m. on the first Friday evening of sesshin and runs until 12:30 p.m. on the final day of sesshin.

By registering for online attendance, you are committing to be present for the entire sesshin, including all online practice periods and the at-home exercises between online practice periods.

By registering for residential attendance, you are committing to be present for the entire sesshin, arriving by 6:30 p.m. Friday and staying until 1:00 p.m. on the final day, and participating in all practice periods, meals, work practice, and rest periods per the sesshin schedule.

WAIVER OF LIABILITY STATEMENT: I understand that a Zen sesshin is a period of strenuous traditional practice and training, including long periods of stillness and silence. I also understand that the expectation is that all participants will adhere to this schedule in order to support group practice. I further understand that the practice leader (or "tanto") for this sesshin is available to me if I wish to discuss, in advance of the sesshin, any concerns or questions I might have. I agree to commit to the entire practice schedule of each sesshin for which I am registering as described on the 2024 Sesshin Schedule page.
